In food, in fabrics, and in cosmetics, everything old is new again. We are getting back to basics, and more and more, walking away from complicated, overly synthetic ingredients.
What if you could use a very simple facial cleanser, save money, and have amazing skin to boot? You’d jump all over it, right? And if you knew what was in the cleanser you likely buy now, you’d probably jump even faster.
Because one of the key ingredients in almost all cleansers is phthalates, which is found primarily in plastic. Hard to pronounce, and even harder on your skin.
One environmental expert with a California company that specializes in this arena says that “a series of tests and studies that have been released recently . . . point to significant potential health concerns” with this element.
Why worry about what these ingredients you can’t pronounce will do to your skin, when you can so easily and inexpensively make your very own pure cleanser right in your kitchen? You’ll just need a few simple items, available for pennies at any supermarket. You might even have some of the things you’ll need already in your pantry.
The primary ingredient, as we already mentioned, will be coconut oil. Not only is this natural oil wonderfully moisturizing, it even kills germs on your skin, making it great for keeping acne at bay. Finally, if you suffer from any of the major skin conditions, such as psoriasis or eczema, coconut oil’s anti-inflammatory properties can go a long way towards alleviating their flare-ups.
In addition to the oil, you will need something you almost certainly have on hand already: baking soda. Believe it or not, the grainy texture of this baking aid is a fantastic way to rid your skin of grease and grime. As an added bonus, if you are fair-complexioned, it even helps to calm down irritated skin.
Simply combine half a cup of the coconut oil and half a cup of the baking soda and completely blend them together. That’s it! You have a pure, natural skin cleanser that should have you looking flawlessly lovely in no time at all.
