Photographer Captures A Photo Of A Giant Phoenix Flying Through The Night Sky

A photographer snapping the aurora borealis might just have taken the best photograph of the Northern Lights ever, capturing the shape of a huge phoenix flying through the night sky.

Hallgrimur Helgason captured the image over Kaldarsel, Iceland, and gained immediate attention as the lights seem to show a soaring phoenix with outstretched wings.

Hallgrimur, aged 64, has been shooting the aurora for years, spending nights in the Icelandic wilderness with his camera in temperatures as low as -13°C.

He told Caters, “It’s really a thrill shooting the aurora, especially when they are so playful like that at night.”

“I have to admit that I always get an adrenalin kick when the lights burst out like that — that particular shot was the top one of the night.”

Forget top photo of the night — the phoenix shot is already being dubbed the best photo of the aurora borealis ever.
