Couple Sees That A Tree Died In Their Yard. What They Turn It Into Has Everyone Talking.

Instead of planting a garden or doing traditional landscaping, Theresa and David, a couple from Wisconsin, had a different idea. They were sitting in their backyard one say and looking out over their property when they noticed that their favorite elm tree in the center of the yard was starting to die of Dutch Elm Disease. The branches of the tree were dying off one by one, but luckily, the trunk and a lot of the larger branches were still solid. After removing the dead branches, they were left with a giant stump with limbs extending up to the sky. It wasn’t pretty, but the couple had some special plans for it.

Theresa and David worked with their friends to come up with the perfect designs for their idea.

Once the general features were agreed upon, David got to work drawing up plans.

After the plans were finalized, they set about building a frame around the elm tree. Yep, it’s gonna be a treehouse!

Any moments of free time were spent gathering materials and shaping their vision.

Plenty of friends pitched in and helped with the build since they knew they’d be spending plenty of time enjoying the finished product.

With the base finished, they now had a platform to reach the top of the tree safely.

Measurements were taken carefully, as everything had to be perfect.

Yep, that’s a second story being built …

Meanwhile, Theresa started to work on decorations and furnishings that would give the treehouse a cozier, more comfortable feel.

I’d say she’s off to a great start.

The main structure is complete! Now it’s time to start the walls and roof.

In order to have a rustic feel, they didn’t want brand new boards and used reclaimed wood whenever possible.

The roof is really starting to come together.

Inside the house, Theresa and her friends started to add their own touches to make the space feel personal.

Wow, that looks gorgeous!

The first level features a deck with antique jars as light fixtures and stools cut from the branches of the tree.

They also hung a giant chandelier made of antlers collected from the nearby area. The windows and walls were all cut around the branches so that the tree remained the focal point.

Here’s a view from one of the two lofts.

The chandelier is suspended using a pulley system, which also makes changing out light bulbs much easier.

The two lofts have beds, a night stand, and an amazing view of the property.

Most of the decorations are antiques and the majority of the furniture is reclaimed.

The second story also has a balcony that wraps around most of the treehouse.

The finished product being enjoyed.

This adult treehouse is truly impressive. They now have the perfect spot to entertain their friends, many of whom pitched in on this project.
