When Officer James Hurst of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department responded to a call at a hospital for a 16-month-old toddler was found outside with no adult supervision.
He immediately posted a photo of him and a child on the Internet that quickly went viral.
When Officer Hurst arrived, he made the decision not to leave the toddler’s side. The little boy cried uncontrollably while being examined, so Officer Hurst held the little boy until he fell asleep.
“I just knew this child needed somebody to be there for him. It was just human instinct; humanity. The hospital staff was taking great care of him [but] he was sobbing and crying. I picked him up and within minutes he was asleep on my chest” said Officer Hurst.
