Brian Herndon, 51, a Texas dad, was battling the flu and was forced to have both his feet amputated due to complications. He was diagnosed last month and landed in a Fort Worth emergency room 24 hours later.
When Herndon was admitted with a fever of 104.7 degrees, and pneumonia, he soon went into septic shock and was airlifted to Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
“One minute you’ve got the flu and the next minute you’re septic,” Herndon said.
Because the septic shock caused blood clots in his extremities, both his legs were amputated right above the ankle.
According to his family, Herndon, will also likely lose most of his fingers.
A GoFundMe page was created to raise money for his prosthetics.
“While this is a challenging complication, we can do this together,” the page said.
