If You Wake Up At The Same Time Every Night, It Could Indicate Health Issue

If you wake up in the middle of the night, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) may have an explanation for you.

The TCM body clock principle is that every organ has a time for high energy and a time for low energy. This being said, there is an optimal time for every activity, from exercise to eating and from sex to rest.

Holistic Health Library recommends organizing your day to follow the TCM body clock.  Waking and drinking pure water between 5 and 7 A.M; take a nap between 3 and 7 P.M, and avoiding sugary foods between 7 and 9 P.M.

During the day, your body is full of yang energy.  Yang energy is associated with activity, expansion, and fire. The evening is reserved for ying energy, which is slow, restorative, and cool. While you’re sleeping, ying energy is used to restore the body. During this time, your liver cleanses the blood and the lungs while it expels toxins. This is the number one reason why sleep is so important. It is also the reason why waking up in the middle of the night is usually a symptom of an underlying issue.

Your liver may have a problem processing waste if you wake between 1 and 3 A.M. Not only is this irritating, it can lead to bouts of insomnia, as well as frustration and rage. In order to strengthen the liver, consider whether you are holding a grudge against anyone. If that’s true, work to resolve your grudge and anger. You’ll be surprised that when you clear your mind of toxic emotions, your body is better will clear itself of physical waste.

Waking between 3 and 5 A.M. is can be yet another sign of emotional turmoil. Grief and sadness are associated with the lungs. It is during these hours, the lungs cleanse themselves of toxic buildup. If at this time, you wake up coughing, your body may be telling you your lungs are having trouble clearing out toxins. Try deep breathing exercises to help you fall back to sleep and energize your lungs.

If you wake in the middle of the night, that’s a sign of too much yang energy. In order to fall back to sleep, try wrapping yourself in warm blankets, take a few deep breaths, and exhale to rid the body of negative energy. Try rubbing your hands together to generate heat, and then use one warm hand to massage the sides of your nose and the other hand to cover your eyes to the count of 35. Next, wiggle your ears back and forth 35 times, and then cover your ears with your hands so your fingers rest on the back of your head. Then tap the back of your head 25 times. And then finally, stretch your arms wide and swallow three times. Lie back down. You’ll be surprised how fast you fall back to sleep.
